On July 11, the House Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee will hear testimony from the state agencies under its jurisdiction, including the State Bar of Texas and the Office of Court Administration.  The hearing notice follows:

Interim Charge Number 8:

Monitor the agencies and programs under the committee’s jurisdiction and the implementation of relevant legislation passed by the 82nd Legislature.

The Committee will hear invited testimony from the following agencies:

  • State Commission on Judicial Conduct
  • Office of Court Administration
  • Office of the Attorney General
  • Guardianship Certification Board
  • State Bar of Texas
  • State Office of Administrative Hearings
  • Department of Information Resources

The Committee will also hear invited testimony regarding the state of electronic filing in the Texas Courts system.

Asbestos

A subcommittee of House Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee will conduct a hearing on July 11 regarding interim charges 4 and 6 (dismissal of certain cases on the inactive docket of asbestos cases in multi-district litigation as well as on asbestos bankruptcy trusts). The Subcommittee on Asbestos will take invited testimony on the following interim charges:

CHARGE 4:
Study the degree of transparency in asbestos bankruptcy trusts and how it affects litigation of asbestos exposure claims in Texas courts.

CHARGE 6:
Study whether the asbestos and silica multidistrict litigation courts should be allowed to dismiss, without prejudice, claims on the courts’ inactive dockets for want of prosecution under certain circumstances.
