THIS MORNING, the Texas Supreme Court reaffirmed its earlier holding that a premises owner can act as its own general contractor and procure workers compensation insurance, and thereby insulate itself from general liability to the injured employees of subcontractors. Court watchers have been waiting for this case to be decided for months. There are several bills pending in the Texas Legislature which would essentially overturn this decision. We will continue to monitor.
